Science: Our Tool and Inspiration

Applying in-depth research, development, and operational experience MDS offers US Federal and International governments a unique resource in the quest to conceptualize, design, and economically deploy terrestrial and space based systems.

Our diverse background includes participation on programs performing Modeling and Simulation (M&S) in support of UAV research and development, engineering and functional management support of ISR platforms, research in the areas of directed energy and space awareness, and survivability analyses of NC3 facilities.

Focused on the resolution of challenges requiring vigorous engineering analysis, our staff have participated in numerous mission centric and critical efforts. Representative programs include:

US AF, Hi-Alt./Near Space ISR

US AF, UAV/General Areo Space R&D

UK Ministry of Defense, SKY-Net 5

NASA, TRMM Satellite Data Analysis

US AF, IV&V for Missile System Programs

US AF, Hi-Alt./Near Space ISR

US AF, Space-Based Infrared (SBIRS)

MDS RECENT AWARDS AND WORK

AFRL, Aerospace Systems Directorate, Aerospace
Vehicles Technology Assessment & Simulation Branch (AFRL/RQQD) Research of Aerospace Systems Technologies (RAST)

RAST is a single award, six year $98 million dollar program in support of AFRL’s Aerospace Systems (RQ) and Human Effectiveness (RH) Directorates. The contract encompasses a broad spectrum of research and development activities to include: the development, maturation, assessment, and integration of aerospace vehicle technologies. Areas of inquiry include, but are not limited to: vehicle flight management systems; control theory; cooperative control; autonomous control; integrated guidance/navigation control; operator vehicle interfaces; vehicle configuration and aerodynamic performance; multidisciplinary design; multifunctional structures and systems; adaptive structures and systems; thermal management; sensor and effector systems; conventional and non-conventional weapon systems; observability; affordability; system engineering. By employing and/or generating state-of-the-art modeling, simulation, and analysis tools (MS&A) and techniques, RAST efforts will provide research, development, demonstration, integration and transition of new air vehicle technologies and modeling, analysis and evaluation of current and future warfighter capabilities. MDS is a small business team member on the contract.

Air Force Global Strike Command Nuclear Command and Control Communications (NC3) , Barksdale AFB

This  signal award contract provides in-depth system engineering, operational analysis and related Modeling and Simulation (M&S) of Air Force NC3 reliant environments. Functional areas of focus include communications performance across sustaining engineering processes and procedures, implementation and fielding measures, survivability and vulnerability assessment and mitigation, metrics development, analysis, tracking, and configuration management and control of AF nuclear capabilities. MDS is a subcontractor on the program.

Scientific/Management Advisory for Research and Technology (SMART), Kirtland AFB
MDS personnel provide engineering and management services for space based platforms, directed energy, and advanced optics for the US Air Force AFRL, HEL-JTO and ORS and NASA. Support covers projective analysis and M&S of science and technology advancements across space electronics, space electro-optics and infrared, space environmental impacts and mitigation, space experiments, space platforms and operations technologies, nuclear explosion monitoring for treaty monitoring, laser systems, high power electromagnetics, directed energy and electro-optics for space superiority, astronomy, high performance computing.

ICBM Ballistic Missile Ground Subsystems,  U.S. Air Force

This five-year, $963.5 million,  signal award contract will provide program management support, engineering services and emergency response to the U.S. Air Force with a focus on ICBM ground communications and related subsystems. The tasks will comprises weapon system analysis, system and subsystems assessment, and technical advisement and assistance to the ICBM Systems Directorate on ground systems-related programs, risk management and mitigation. The work will be performed primarily at Hill Air Force Base, Utah; Omaha, Nebraska; Vandenberg Air Force Base, California; and San Bernardino, California. MDS is a small business team member to the prime integrator on the effort.

Hi-Alt./Near Space ISR, U.S. Air Force

MDS has been awarded a contract to provide analytical, advisory, technical expertise and analysis for near space ISR programs. Variants integrated are both manned (U-2) and unmanned (UAV - RQ-4/EQ-4).  Work will include analysis involving systems, subsystems, data links, communications, training systems, and intelligence systems as these relate to current and future programs. The team will analyze and coordinate requests for CONUS imagery intelligence (IMINT) and signals intelligence (SIGINT). Additional tasking includes sustainment and logistical operations involving weapons system management, reliability, maintainability, sustainability and system integration of aircraft, sub-systems, sensors, data links, and associated ground support equipment.
